Abstract

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is a major constituent on the surface of the gram-negative bacteria including the bacteria of genus Yersinia. This chapter presents a short summary of the biosynthesis, genetics, and structural analysis of Yersinia LPS and then describes how the receptor structures of bacteriophages φR1-37 and φA1122 specific for Y. enterocolitica serotype O:3 and Y. pestis, respectively, were characterized. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media New York.
