Abstract

Patients with opioid dependence, whether abusers or legitimate users, can pose significant and unique challenges to the anesthesiologist. This overview focuses on the clinical implications of opioid tolerance and dependency and offers guidelines for patient assessment and pain management in the perioperative setting.
