Abstract

The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol is an instrument for financing low carbon development in newly industrializing and developing countries. In May 2007, more than half of the 2022 CDM projects registered or in the pipeline are renewable energy projects, but only seven of these use solar power. This article analyses the current experiences with the CDM for the deployment of renewable energy projects and especially solar projects in order to access the CDM's potential for financing solar energy projects in China.
