Abstract

It is felt that the high-level language is easier to comprehend when the assembly-language concepts are understood. However, if the high-level language cannot perform the desired operation, the use of the assembly-language is indicated. A guide for writing assembly-language programs and routines on IBM personal computers (PC) is furnished. Specifics of the 8088 microcomputer central processing unit (CPU) are given, followed by a sample program and routine. The program is a useful utility illustrating DOS (disk operating system) function calls and string manipulation. The routine introduces a new technique for writing code to be called from BASIC.
