Abstract

Recognition of family needs is important and should be incorporated into patient care especially within intensive care settings.* Family needs include information needs, social needs, emotional needs and practical needs.* Flexible visiting hours, adequate knowledge and effective communication skills will facilitate nurses to assess family needs accurately.
