The three basic needs of humans in terms of requirements of any healthcare system is to keep people healthy, treat the sick and to provide this within a financial envelope that is affordable, efficient and cost effective. For any healthcare system, finance to deliver the healthcare and how to raise the finance remains a challenge faced by governments globally. This chapter will look at the generic models of healthcare systems globally, how they are financed and services provided through various models. Innovations in healthcare service delivery will also be discussed. Special consideration will be given to how healthcare is delivered in certain countries.
