Abstract

The problematic of military efficiency represents a way to renew civilmilitary relations analysis, in a context where the issue of military subordination to politics is less prominent in contemporary democracies. Are the civil-military relations a factor determining military efficiency in liberal democracies? Which type of relations between political authorities and army ensure the best military efficiency? The purpose of this article is to offer a preliminary analysis of the relationships between civil-military relations and military efficiency in liberal democracies. This analysis is based on a comparison between United States, United Kingdom and France concerning general strategy and the use of force.
