Overuse injuries to the upper extremity are common in advanced tennis players. Racquet-mounted sensors designed to provide information on numbers and kinds of strokes may provide valuable data for monitoring the volume/intensity of training and competition. Initial research based on these technologies indicates accurate monitoring of tennis play activities and potential for establishing training volumes/intensity potentially related to injury. Improvements in these racquet sensor technologies and prospective studies using these sensors to adjust volume/intensity are warranted to confirm current hypotheses about training volumes and overuse injury risk.
