Abstract

When mechanical and electrical software systems are constructed from many components, the organization of the overall system-the mechanical and electrical software architecture-presents a new set of design problems. In this paper, we provide the integration method of mechanical and electrical software architecture. We begin by considering a number of common design styles upon which many systems are currently based and show how different styles can be combined in a single design. Then we present 1 case and 4 solutions to illustrate how architectural representations can improve our understanding of complex mechanical and electrical software systems. The solutions can be compared by tabulating their ability to address the design considerations recorded earlier. A detailed comparison would have to involve consideration of a number of factors concerning the intended use of the system: for example, is it batch or interactive, update-intensive or query-intensive, etc. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
