Abstract

The article discusses opportunities offered by open educational resources (OER) to academic libraries. An overview of OER is presented including its origin and definition. Topics include legal options when using existing third-party materials which include public domain materials, openly licensed materials, and obtaining permission or license rights. Creative Commons (CC) license is also mentioned. Opportunities discussed include textbook adoption and replacement, and lower cost of materials.
