Abstract

Current health services show that in the medical area a lot of devices for diagnosis, controlling and monitoring the human status exist. The healthcare industry is facing acute cost pressures based on proprietary technologies. The open source development model could enables enterprises to efficiently amortize development costs with an ecosystem of partners, customers and competitors, providing value service and support for freely available software. Solutions based on the interoperability are considered a basic strategy to improve medical care. SHARE project enhances to create a knowledge framework within the OSS applied to the eHealth sector. This project aims at promoting the standardization in this sector by providing different tools and resources for increasing the usage of OSS in this sector. © 2010 International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering.
