An enormous observational progress has been made in the last decade on the characterization of collimated jets from young and embedded protostars, the so-called class 0 and class I objects. Here I will review the main results in this field recently obtained thanks to the improved IR and sub-mm performances of the present instrumentation, and to the development of the relevant spectroscopic diagnostic techniques.
