Abstract

The felling practices of bamboos both from forests and homesteads of different countries of tropics are discussed. Bamboos are felled on the basis of selection of age above 3--4 years. However, clear-felling system is also practised in some special occasions mainly in the homesteads cultivations. A detail of felling process and steps with ongoing Mohal system and Permit system of harvesting the bamboo resources including transportation through waterways from the hills of the subcontinent has been described. The methods of felling bamboos from a clump and guidelines of harvesting bamboos after gregarious flowering in the forests are outlined.
