Abstract

Underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) has attracted a lot of attention in recent years because of its high-speed and low latency characteristics. The first part of this chapter introduces the development status of UWOC; in order to highlight the advantages of underwater wireless optical communication, in the second part of this chapter, the authors compare the advantages and disadvantages of UWOC, underwater radio frequency (RF) communication, and underwater acoustic communication technologies; the third part of this chapter introduces the subsystem technology of UWOC. Finally, this chapter outlines the role of UWOC network layer technology.
