Abstract

A 625 gallon powderinsulated Dewar has been built a nd a ppropriately instrum ented to provide information concerning pressurization gas consumption, ullage press ure, liquid level (ullage volume, indirectly), horizontal and vertical temperat ure surveys t hroug ho ut the test fluid, and lapsed t ime. Press urization levels of 25, 75, 125, and 180 psig have been examined individually. Two techniquesone based on the case of onedimensional h eat flow in a se miinfinite solid and t he other found ed on an electrical network analog of t he thermal systemare given for making reasonable predictions concerning liquidphase hydrogen temperature distri bution in wellins ulated, rapidlypressurized storage ves els. A t hermal analysis is presented which indicates t he m ec hanics of heat transmission and adsorption in the fI uid.
