Abstract

The influence of the sulfur family of elements on the fatigue strength of steel is controlled more by the shape of the inclusions than by their quality. By considering sulfides as intensifiers of constraint, it is possible to relate the theoretical concentration factor K//t to the real coefficient K//f which characterizes the lowering of fatigue strength in the presence of inclusions.
