Abstract

The classrooms that we visit in the 21st century have changed considerably over the past decades and will continue to do so in the future years as the demographics of our nation continue to transform our population. Population predictions suggest that by 2050, Whites will no longer represent the majority of the population; however the changing demographic profile of the United States is currently being observed in our public schools. In 2009, White students accounted for 55% of students in public schools in the United States (National Center for Educational Statistics, 2011).
