Abstract

Searching for a small subset of genes out of the thousands of genes in Microarray is a crucial problem for accurate cancer classification. In this paper, a novel gene selection method based on genetic algorithms (GAs) is proposed. In order to reduce the search space of GAs, a novel pre-selection procedure is also introduced. To evaluate the performance of the presented method, experiments on five open datasets are conducted, and the results show that it performs rather well. © Springer-Verlag 2004.
