In recent years, legally and symbolically recognising informal carers has become a matter of apparent consent, especially when, in July 2019, the Legal Status of Informal Carers was approved. However, the trajectory of this social problem as an "issue" has not been exempt from dispute regarding a set of meanings, given how its agents have mobilised different ontological definitions of care, labour, recognition and social justice. This article aims to analyse the discursive operations activated by some of the leading actors who took part in this political process, with a focus on the political documents and discourses produced in this context. Building on this analysis, a possible typology of models of informal care recognition is suggested, underlying different strategies and perspectives on care regimes and justice at work.
