Abstract

The regulations and the competence related to the sea often definevarious, decision-making levels and institutions. To a large extentspatial planning indirectly dictated and still dictates the use of thesea in the narrow coastal belt (since these are the so-calledfunctionally connected lands). The discussion about the sea relatedissues will also have to focus on the consequences brought by theauthorized uses and the applicable legislation on the individual(spatially defined) areas. The modelling approach used for the entireSlovenian coastline (Fig. 24.1) and extent of regional spatialdevelopment plan is presented. The methodology presents a turn fromqualitative assessments to the suitable conceptual and quantitativesolutions which could lead to the comprehensive development of wholeregion.
