Abstract

Standards and specifications are important instruments for opening up new markets. Furthermore, carrying out standardization at an early stage in development supports the development of new products and services because it improves communication between the various developers by providing standard definitions of interfaces or a uniform terminology. The joint project "INFRANORM" of DIN, the German Institute for Standardization and the Berlin University of Technology (TU Berlin) will help introduce standardization for the protection of transport infrastructures, an area in which standards and specifications are currently lacking. Several DIN Specifications on the subject are being drawn up and are or will soon be published. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
