Summary Passionflower: shedding light on the mechanism of action Passionflower has been used in the treatment of stress-related symptoms for several centuries. In the last decade the efficacy was proved in clinical studies, however, the mechanism of action was still unclear. Recent non-clinical studies show that passionflower extracts inhibit GABA-reuptake, bind to the GABA binding site of the GABAA- receptor and do not interact with the ethanol or benzodiazepine binding side.
