Abstract

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) affects every organ system. Throughout the patient’s lifetime, the renal manifestations become more serious. While renal disease can be life threatening in the adult with TSC, the opportunity to modify the disease course is during the pediatric time frame. Recent advances in cell biology have translated into targeted therapy for TSC renal disease and have revealed novel insights about the renal response to disease. Proper surveillance and treatment can significantly reduce the renal disease burden and prolong the duration and increase the quality for the patient.
