Abstract

The purpose of this research was to investigate new product development projectsProject in the Icelandic seafood industrySeafood industry regarding three sustainability dimensionsSustainability dimension, namely, environmentalEnvironmental, economicEconomic and socialSocial. Iceland is ranked among the most sustainable countries in the world. Furthermore, the seafood industrySeafood industry in Iceland, with its start-upsStart-ups, has been referred to as a role model in the use of fish waste to develop new products. Using survey methodology, we investigate how the sustainability dimensionsSustainability dimension are represented in each phase of new product development projects in the seafood sector. The research contextualizes sustainabilitySustainability in new product development projects in regard to a company's strategy. The main findings demonstrate that the different stages of product development do not differ in aspect to sustainabilitySustainability. The caseCase is particularly interesting from the perspective of sustainability in new product development projectsProject, providing insights that can be applicable for other industries.
