Abstract

Originally published in Spanish, the article presents a brief description of the concept and classifications of transversal competence, as well as their location in the translation market. With the aim of identifying which transversal competencies are most important in the process of professional translators selection, the study collected quantitative data from 31 companies that hire translation services regularly. The most outstanding skills were: motivation, creativity, initiative, communication, planning and teamwork. Finally, the research presents the need to use active teaching methodologies for the training of translators, as well as the use of authentic documents in full practical activities, and highlights the role of junior enterprises in this process.
