Abstract

Autism is a lifelong developmental condition that affects, among other things, the way an individual relates to his or her environment and their interaction with other people. The main areas of difficulty are in social communication, social interaction and restricted or repetitive behaviours and interests. An estimated one in 100 people has autism; that’s almost 230,000 Australians. Autism affects almost four times as many boys than girls. A kid's symptoms could be very mild, severe, or somewhere in the middle. For example, some kids might be upset by too many noises or sounds that are too loud. This is serious disorder which requires treatment with brain wave and signals. Brain imaging studies have shown that abnormal brain development beginning in an infant's first months may have a role in ASD. At this time, the only medications approved by the FDA to treat aspects of ASD are the antipsychotics risperidone (Risperdal) and aripripazole.Because of these developments, Autism Research is expanding its scope to include adequately powered treatment studies, with a particular emphasis on research that reveals underlying mechanisms, either by testing causal hypotheses or by revealing variations in responses, which prompts refinement of explanatory models.
