Abstract

Rainfall influences seed production markedly in arid habitats of the N Great Basin. Results do not support the proposition that wintering sparrows are here limited directly by competition for food. Other seasonal climatic factors, such as winter snow cover and temperature, appear to be more important. -from Authors
