Abstract

An unstructured mathematics unit on exponential decay functions for gifted and talented high school students in a second-year algebra class is described. In this unit, students learn how to prepare for an experiment, gather and organize data, use their calculators to interpret data, and relate the data to the real experiment. The unstructured nature of the unit means that students do not receive a worksheet, written instructions, or direct instruction.
