Congestion and transit problems in the urban centers have challenged public managers to find solutions that encourage mobility. Among of the most promising alternatives, is the use of rail metro (subway). Several cities around the world have used subway systems in order to equalize mobility problems, however, in Brazil, the use of this transport is still limited to a few capitals. Thus, this study aims to analyze the current state of the Brazilian Subway System. We conducted a field survey, along with the collection of bibliographic data in order to depict the amount of lines, stations and its extension, the quantity of users transported and the mobility of citizens in relation to existing integrations with other modes, the fares, costs investments and expandability. The study concluded that all services have difficulties to expand their rail network as well as deficiencies in customer service and communication with society.
