Abstract

In case of disaster people want to escape from the dangerous area (a building or an area of a city). Because of changing environment dynamic routing is requested. The main idea is to provide some actors involved in crisis situations with PDAs connected via a wireless network. The PDAs will form a mobile ad-hoc network (MANET). These kinds of networks do not require any existing infrastructure or centralized administration. The challenging tasks in such networks, of dynamically changing collection of wireless mobile nodes, are intelligent routing, bandwidth allocation, and power control techniques. In this paper we introduce a routing algorithm for MANET based on ideas from artificial life (swarm intelligence). We implemented the algorithm and compared its performance with the well-known AntNet. © 2004 Springer-Verlag.
