Abstract

New data on major and trace elements are given, and together with previously published data provide quite a complete review of the composition of layer 2 in this region. The basalts range from MORB-type tholeiites to Fe-Ti-enriched tholeiites, and apparently represent intense, shallow-depth fractional crystallization.-K.A.R.
