Abstract

This paper focuses on the needed physical space for group or individual learners when using blended learning. Virtual environment designers and Campus developers need to understand the role of the physical space in learning. The study shows that the students often prefer to study at the university even when there is possibility to study at home. In the case universities there are not enough spaces for self-study or group work at the university. In addition, the learners have difficulties to recognize the possibilities to use spaces like lobbies and restaurants for learning. The campus developers want to increase the efficient use of spaces by creating possibilities to use a space for different purposes. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.
