Abstract

The conformal properties of the heat kernel expansion are used to determine the local form of the coefficients in a manifold with boundary. The conformal transformation of the effective action is obtained. A novel derivation of the boundary term in the Gauss-Bonnet-Chern theorem is detailed. © 1990 American Institute of Physics.
