Abstract

Introduction: The research was conducted to determine addiction of Smartphone among students and find out correlation between addiction of Smartphone and depression. Objectives: Study objectives were assessing addiction of Smartphone & depression level then finding correlation of between addiction of Smartphone & depression level among under graduate students. Methods: Evaluative study conducted on 100 undergraduate students were selected by non-probability sampling convenient method for assessing the addiction of Smartphone & depression level among under graduate students then finding out correlation of between addiction of Smartphone & depression level among under graduate students. Data of addiction of Smartphone was assessed by addiction of Smartphone scale & depression level was assessed by PHQ-9 scale. In terms of objectives the data was collected and analyzed by using inferential and descriptive statistics. Result: After assessment 76 (76%) undergraduate nursing students are having moderate addiction of Smartphone and 1(1%) are having severe addiction of Smartphone whereas 35 (35%) of undergraduate nursing students having mild depression level and 10 (10%) moderate depression level. There was correlation between addiction of Smartphone& depression level among undergraduate students. Conclusion: A few independent positive indicators of Smartphone dependence emerged including anxiety and depression. It may be the case that youthful with personality type A encountering high feeling of anxiety and low mood may need positive pressure coping for dealing with stress and mood managements and are therefore exceptionally helpless to Smartphone addiction.
