Abstract

Purification parameters of the vacuum distillation for magnesium alloys were studied. The AM60B magnesium alloy is mainly used as the raw material in this study. The condensation ratio decreased with the temperature of condenser up to 460°C in the pressure of about 1 Pa and the condensation does not occur significantly at 480°C. The content of Zn in the deposited magnesium decreases with increasing the condensation temperature. The chemical compositions of the deposited material at 440°C agrees with the JIS for the pure magnesium ingot. The AM60B magnesium alloy purified at 620°C is comparable to that of AM100A magnesium alloy purified at 600°C.
