Abstract

In this paper, we propose a real time and robust hand gesture system called ProJest which allows the combination of a smartphone or laptop paired with a pico or standard projector to turn any wall into a highly collaborative touch-capable surface. The system comprises of 4 stages: a calibration stage, followed by hand detection, hand tracking, and a gesture recognition step. Testing of the ProJest system show it working well under a variety of challenging environments, such as when users are interacting with content that has many skin-like colors or large amounts of motion. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
