Abstract

The name of Lixisol (IUSS Working Group in World reference base for soil resources 2014, 203 p, 2015) is derived from the Latin ``lixivia'' meaning washed out substances and strongly weathered soils, in which clays are leached/migrated to an argic B horizon with moderate to high base saturation. These soils are generally observed in tropical, subtropical, or warm temperate climates with a pronounced dry season, notably on old eroded or deposited surfaces.
