Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of carbomer 940 on the characteristics of hand sanitizer gel.This study used experimental methods with variations in the concentration of carbomer 940, namely 0.1%; 0.5%; 1% and 1.5%, the characteristics test of gel preparations in the form of organoleptic test, homogeneity test, spreadability test and pH test. The data analysis used is descriptive statistical analysis in the form of calculating the mean and standard deviation. Analysis of the difference test was carried out using the Anova test. If the value between groups is significant (with a confidence level of 95%), further analysis is carried out using the least significant difference test (LSD) to see the differences between groups.The results showed that there was an effect of carbomer 940 on the characteristics of the preparation. Homogeneity test results showed all formulas were homogeneous. The results of the spreadability test showed a significant difference (P <0.05) in formula 1 (17.8 cm ± 2.3), formula 2 (7.0 cm ± 0.0) and formula 3 (4.8 cm ± 0.2). The pH test showed a significant difference (P <0.05) in formula 1 (6.1 ± 0.1) and formula 2 (6.6 ± 0.2).
