Abstract

The activity profile of the alpha male of a captive group of 33 crab-eating macaques (Macaca fascicularis) was compared with the activity profiles of the other 4 adult males of the group. The alpha male's patterns of cage use and social interactions differed in several respects from those of the other adult males, indicating his position-specific way of dealing with the group and the surroundings. © 1986 S.
