Abstract

This chapter will focus on fundamental principles of tumor embolization and the variety of embolic agents available for use. A detailed description of multiple tumor embolization procedures will demonstrate general bland tumor embolization methods and techniques. The goal of this chapter is to highlight important concepts involved in the approach to any tumor type, specifically, formulating a realistic treatment goal, performing a complete angiographic assessment of the involved vascular territory, and selection of the appropriate embolic agent for the given clinical scenario. Patient safety is always prioritized for any intervention. Several potential consequences of nontarget embolization and general techniques and principles for avoiding nontarget embolization will be briefly discussed.
