Prevotellaceae is a family in the phylum Bacteroidetes and is composed of four genera: Prevotella, Alloprevotella, Hallella, and Paraprevotella. Two strains of Prevotella have been completely sequenced: Prevotella intermedia 17 and Prevotella ruminicola 23 (TIGR). Prevotella strains are Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, non-motile, rod-shaped or pleomorphic, singular cells that thrive under anaerobic growth conditions. The G+C content of strains in this family range from 45 to 49 mol%.
