The formation of carbon dioxide molecules from D2O(H 2O)/CO binary ice induced by UV irradiation was studied experimentally. The measured conversion rate of CO to CO2 is about one order higher than previously reported rates. Our results imply that CO 2 formation by the UV process is efficient even in a quiescent dense cloud.
