Considering that deaf people have their own culture based upon their unique manners and characteristics this paper investigates the criteria for development of accessible icons, which are easily recognized by deaf. Thus, this paper starts with a brief description of the deaf culture and reviews related research. Finally, a systematic review of literature was carried out in order to describe the state of the art on the criteria to develop icons.
