Abstract

In order for vehicles to travel purposefully through geographic space, five functions must be performed: Information about the configuration of geographic space, and about paths and objects within it, must be available. The current location must be known within the reference frame. A route from the current location to the destination, must be determined or recalled. The action to be taken at the next decision point along the route, together with some means to recognize that decision point, must be available. The vehicle's travel through the space must be controlled. -from Authors
