Abstract

Critical illness polyneuropathy (CIP) and myopathy (CIM) are neuromuscular disorders that have been documented in critically ill patients admitted into intensive care units and are usually noted because of their failure to wean from mechanical ventilation. As a result of the diseases, there are increases in hospitalization length of stay, morbidity, and costs. © 2010 Springer-Verlag US.
