The word intervention is widely used in the mental health and behavioral health fields. The word intervention is also used to describe a very specific process through which friends and family members come together as a united team to confront an addiction or compulsive behavior in the life of a loved one. The express purpose of this type of Intervention is to encourage the suffering individual to engage in some form of treatment. As used in this chapter, die word Intervention shall primarily be used in this later sense and shall be spelled with a capital letter I when describing the various models of Intervention commonly practiced. Given that more and more late adolescents and young adults are entering treatment via an intervention, it is important for therapists to understand this process. This chapter is intended to help fill this gap in understanding. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)
