Abstract

With the advancement and development of technology in recent years, multimedia devices have become even smarter. The devices are now equipped with multiple camera sensors and depth sensors. All these devices require a real-time computer user interface. In recent years, other devices such as mechanical gloves and systems have been introduced to monitor the user’s movements. One of the most interesting areas is the use of gestures to interact with the computer or device. However, the hand model provides information about the location and other hand features when detecting the gesture. This makes the programming complex and creates several difficulties in monitoring. To develop an application is essential to study gestures. There are many gestures that are used to interact with a physical interface. Some of these are the movements of the fingers of the hands and the body in general. Also, the direction of the glances can be seen as a gesture as well as the expressions of the person. Gestures are graded based on the importance of the gesture, the gesture function, and the description of the operation. To monitor tracking or to implement a program, one of the key goals is to use new technologies that make the system easy to use and at low cost. Some of the commercially available technologies that also provide us with the ability to recognize gestures are Kinect and Leap Motion. Basic differences in technology are distinguished by the distance between user and computer. Much of the available software is being studied and can be used to detect a gesture. When a company develops and creates a new proprietary technology, it initially tries to secure control and rights. However, many companies have a different policy and there are many business platforms that remain available to the general public. In order to help the use of technology for innovation and growth in other industries, companies have left free software. For example, in Leap Motion there is an SDK library that provides the user with easy programming. In addition, many ready-to-use applications are provided. Some industries that use motion detection technology are medical, robotics, intelligent agent and environmental industries. The choice of technology and applications is rapid. The technology offers many possibilities and many aspirations and expectations for the near future. We must be able to follow it and discover it. In the next pages, we will go into the world of technology and we will discover how we can implement our own gesture detection application that also serves people with special needs, such as the recognition of sign language.
