Abstract

This paper presents a generalization of the Noise Adaptive Fuzzy Equalization Method (NAFE) which was developed for visualization of high dynamic range (HDR) images produced by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) aboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) spacecraft launched by NASA in 2010. This generalization widens the usability of the NAFE method to HDR images with extreme brightness gradient and with significantly different parts. This type of images is typical for imaging of solar corona by means of white-light coronagraphs and during total solar eclipses however the method may have much wider field of usage even outside the solar research. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.
