Sequential constructions of random partitions

Abstract

This chapter introduces a basic sequential construction of randompartitions, motivated at first by consideration of uniform randompermutations of [n] which are consistent in a certain sense as nvaries. This leads to consideration of a particular two-parameterfamily of exchangeable random partition structures, which can becharacterized in various ways, and which is closely related to gammaand stable subordinators.
