Abstract

in the field of biological treatments of autistic children, therapies tend to fall into two general categories / first are the non-specific therapies which are given to any child who has autistic symptoms regardless of etiology / the second . . . are those which depend upon specific diagnostic categories-either clinical subgroupings or laboratory classification / discussion of these specific therapies, including case histories, will occupy the bulk of this paper finally, a look at the research literature related to new therapies either currently under investigation or recently proposed will be mentioned specific therapies with clinical or laboratory targeting / fragile-X cases of autism / PKU [phenylketonuria] / purine abnormalities / hypocalcinuria / lactic acidosis / epilepsy presenting as autism clinical indications for biological non-drug therapies / ocular self-mutilation / skin discoloration / severe diarrhoea/food sensitivity (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)
